Vietnam – October 2025 – Powerful Typhoon Bualoi has left a trail of destruction across
Vietnam’s central and northern highlands, causing significant loss of life, widespread damage to
infrastructure, and severe disruption to daily life.
According to official reports, at least 36 people have died, with 21 still missing and 147 injured
as a result of the storm’s impact. Over 210,000 homes have been damaged or flooded, and
more than 347,000 households have experienced prolonged power outages. Torrential rain and
strong winds have triggered landslides, collapsed bridges, and washed away roads, leaving many
remote villages completely cut off from emergency services.
The agricultural sector — a vital source of income in the highlands — has been hit especially
hard. More than 51,000 hectares of rice fields and crops have been destroyed, threatening food
security and long-term livelihoods. Critical public infrastructure, including dozens of schools, has
been heavily damaged or destroyed, forcing hundreds of children to halt their education. In the
hardest-hit provinces of Hà Tĩnh and Nghệ An, local authorities report damages exceeding 6
trillion VND.
